Overview
Rhodes Virtual Reality Development and research encompasses multiple spaces and resources dedicated to immersive technology, interactive media, and motion capture research. Together, these facilities support both coursework and independent research in virtual environments, 3D interaction, and human-computer interfaces.
Virtual Reality Lab
The VR Lab is the primary workspace for students and faculty working with virtual and mixed reality. It houses multiple VR-ready computers, headsets, and peripherals for use in courses like COMP 325: GRAPHICS/VE/HC INTERACTION. Students can develop, test, and present VR projects here.
A quick-start guide for students using the Lab is available here: https://rhodescollege.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/resumedraft.action?draftId=3409018886&draftShareId=4bfd85b5-f338-417f-a2fc-306c7106b67b&atlOrigin=eyJpIjoiNjNkYWJlMDQzYTFmNDE3NGIyMjM5MDQ0NDAxMjQzODgiLCJwIjoiYyJ9
Researcher Lab
Located adjacent to the main VR Lab in Briggs 122, the Research Room provides a more controlled environment for VR experiments and prototype development. It supports projects involving data collection, human-subject studies, and faculty research initiatives that require isolated testing or specialized setups. More info can be found here: https://rhodescollege.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HPCL/pages/3449323536/VR+Researcher+Guide?atlOrigin=eyJpIjoiMzUyZTE4NjBiNDI2NDNlYjhlZjQ4MzM5ZGI2MjFlYTAiLCJwIjoiYyJ9
Motion Capture Lab
The Motion Capture Lab extends the capabilities of the VR spaces by enabling full-body tracking and animation capture. Equipped with optical tracking cameras and motion capture suits, this lab allows for precise recording of human movement, useful for research in animation, and VR embodiment studies.
