Preparing for the Motion Capture Lab
The motion capture system uses infrared light to track reflective markers and is sensitive to other reflections as well. Please review the following to prepare for use of the lab:
Motion Capture Suits
There are 3 motion capture suits available (S, L, and XL) with tracking markers already applied. The suits are made of spandex and run a bit small for their size. Each suit is comprised of 4 pieces:
Head cap
Long sleeve shirt
Pants with feet straps
Shoe covers
The manufacturer provided motion capture suits are not required for use of the motion capture system. Other tracking methods can be prepared with advance notice (e.g. applying markers to personally provided clothing).
Suitable clothing
While motion capture suits can be worn over clothing, it may be difficult to get them to fit over loose-fitting clothes. Avoid wearing reflective clothing, reflective shoes/socks, or jewelry. Black clothing is recommended.
Longer hair
The official motion capture caps can be a tight fit if you have longer hair. Hair can also cover tracking markers around the front and back of the neck and shoulders. Please bring headwear, or be prepared to tie hair up or back, if needed.
Tracking markers
Please take care when changing in and out of the suits as the motion capture markers are attached to the suits with velcro.
