The Motion Capture Lab is located in the Ewing Studio at the back of McCoy Theatre. Directions to the theatre and an overview of the lab space can be found in the location details section below. Lab hardware includes a motion capture workstation, OptiTrack cameras and peripherals, as well as a virtual reality workstation with HTC Vive headsets, cameras and peripherals. The theater department also has a Mac Mini installed for their use at the podium.

OptiTrack Motion Capture System

Power

The motion capture system is powered by a rack mounted PDU and set of switches in the studio’s back closet. Turning on the PDU power switch on the bottom right of the rack provides power for all systems. Rack hardware includes:

The motion capture desktop is a custom built machine with the following specs:

OptiTrack Motive Software

OptiTrack Motive 2.2.0 is installed on the workstation and used for camera calibration and capture. The license has expired but the software is still functional. The oldest Motive documentation on OptiTrack’s website is for version 2.3 - https://docs.optitrack.com/v2.3/motive.

Three suits (S, L, and XL) are currently prepared for use with the Baseline 37x Marker Set in Motive:

A list to verify marker placement locations on the velcro mocap suits is detailed below. A visual model displaying these locations can be found in Motive: View menu > Builder Pane, then select the Skeletons option at the bottom of the pane.

Segment markers which allow for a bit more flexibility in placement are labeled with a (!) below and are highlighted in magenta on the model in Motive.
